Wire Mesh Pre-conditioner
Wire Mesh Pre-conditioners, like mesh pads utilised for demisting applications, typically comprise a pad of knitted wire (mesh) supported by a framework (weld mesh or grid). They are utilised when either a high separation efficiency and / or high turndown is required of the separator and are positioned upstream of the demisting device. As pre-conditioners they can also be utilised in any configuration in horizontal and vertical separators.
The difference between the mesh type pre-conditioner and the mesh type demisting device, is that the pre-conditioner is designed to operate at about three times the gas velocity used for a mesh type demisting device. This means that it operates in a flooded condition, which has the effect of enlarging the sizes of the upstream droplets, thereby increasing the amount of liquid removal within the downstream demisting device and improving the efficiency of the gas / liquid separation.
Further, since it provides a pressure drop prior to the demisting device, any slight mal-distribution present on the face of the mesh pre-conditioner will be reduced significantly on entering the demisting device, thus again having a beneficial effect on the gas / liquid separation.
Advantages of the Wire Mesh Pre-Conditioner:
  • Provides coalescence of the liquid droplets prior to engagement on the demisting device, substantially increasing the efficiency of the demisting device.
  • Provides a pressure drop over the area of the demisting device, thus effectively distributing the gas flow evenly over the equipment, minimising any mal-distribution.
  • Ensures that the separator has a high turndown ratio ≥ 10:1.
  • At low flows, the mesh type pre-conditioner takes over from the downstream demisting device and acts, itself, as the demisting device at these conditions, it is no longer operating in the flooded condition but reverts back to the operation of a “mesh type demisting device”.
  • Various shapes and orientations.
  • Low installed cost.
  • Various materials.

Applications:
  • Scrubbers.
  • Separators.
  • Knock-out drums.
  • Flue gas cleaning.
  • Distillation, Absorbtion and GDU columns.
  • Process vessels.
Please note that we strongly recommend against the installation of Wire Mesh Pre-Conditioners in fouling or dirty duties.
ZP-090 vane type pre-conditioner

The ZP-090 vane packs are designed for both horizontal and vertical separators. The flow pattern between the vanes is smooth and they do not contain any “hooks” or “troughs” that may become blocked.

They are utilised when either a high separation efficiency and / or high turndown is required of the separator and are positioned upstream of the demisting device.

The ZP-090 vane pack, when used as a pre-conditioner has the effect of enlarging the sizes of the upstream droplets, thereby increasing the amount of liquid removal within the downstream demisting device and improving the efficiency of the gas /liquid separation.

Further, since it provides a pressure drop ahead of the demisting device, any slight mal-distribution present on the face of the vane type pre-conditioner will be reduced significantly on entering the demisting device, thus again having a beneficial effect on the gas / liquid separation.

Advantages of the ZP-090 Vane Type Pre-Conditioner:

  • Provides coalescence of the liquid droplets prior to engagement on the demisting device, substantially increasing the efficiency of the demisting device.
  • Provides a pressure drop over the area of the demisting device, thus effectively distributing the gas flow evenly over the equipment, minimising any mal-distribution.
  • Ensures that the separator has a high turndown ratio ≥10:1
  • Resists fouling.
  • Robust construction.
  • No moving parts thus no maintenance.
